Grand Election Team (GET) August Update
The summer hiatus is over for the Grand Election Team, and I have some really good news to share about the status of the GET Report to the Board. Terry Murphy’s Volunteer Work Group is tackling many of the challenges we expressed in the report and is also working toward a culture change throughout our entire community when it comes to volunteering. Some of the items from the report that you will see addressed at an upcoming workshop are leadership training for potential board members, formation of a recruitment team to seek out potential board candidates, less board member involvement in committee work, having the committee chairs step up for a brief update on their work product--just for starters. The report made an impact. Thanks to those who emailed their thoughts and thanks to the board members who listened, we are going to see changes.
Now that we are officially back to work, we are heavily focused on the upcoming Board of Directors election and beginning work on the Advisory Committee interviews. All the while, listening to the things you wanted to see improved. For both the Committee Interviews and the Board election, some things will be different, so stay tuned. We’ve added something new ---a mix and mingle and ask questions event in October to give potential Board candidates a heads up. It will be up to each resident to help make certain we will, indeed, have a real election this time around. Asking yourself, “why is it up to me?” Well, think about your friends, neighbors, fellow club members, etc., etc., --someone you know who would make a great board member! So, ask them to consider it! Tell them you think they would be great so others will too.
SCG is a community effort---without volunteers, we would never have been named Number One in Arizona. Let’s keep it that way.
